I am 41-year-old mother of two children. Like most women, I have been conscious of my weight and have always been thin (though as I see it now, not necessarily fit!).
My body went through normal changes post the birth of my first child. Post-delivery I gained 14 kgs. Though I managed to shed most of the weight in a year with random diets, I was not confident that I did this in the right manner, as my body still looked flabby and I continued to have bulges especially around the tummy. As time passed, I became comfortable with my weight and altered my clothing to conceal the tummy fat.
After my second son too, I lost most of the excess weight post-delivery but yet again not with the correct methods. This time I spent hours training in the gym and counted calories without taking care of the nutrition needs. As a result, I became weaker and injured my back. After three weeks of physiotherapy, the pain receded but kept recurring. I gradually realized that I was only treating the symptoms and not the cause, i.e. I was wrong at merely reducing the weight without taking care of my overall wellbeing. So I promised to myself to become Fitter & Stronger from inside out and decided to take control of my health.
I had heard about Pilates and enrolled for classes. With each class, I understood and appreciated Pilates more and more. This propelled me to become a Pilates teacher myself, hence embarking on my journey into the professional world of fitness. After a gap of ten years, I went back to studying and preparing for my Pilates training. I hit the books hard on Pilates, human anatomy, fitness, nutrition, injuries and related matters.
As I got entrenched in the world of fitness, I realized the importance of good health. In addition to Pilates, I gained certification in various forms of exercises from International fitness schools and today I am an Elite Trainer of ISSA (International Sports Science Association).
